Validate before publication
Kobo explicitly recommends validation because file errors can create display problems and can interfere with distribution to partner sites. Fixing known errors before upload is preferable to troubleshooting after release.
Build useful navigation
Chapter headings and the EPUB navigation structure should work together. Readers need reliable access to the book’s sections even when presentation differs across devices.
Use the right layout model
Kobo distinguishes reflowable and fixed-layout EPUBs. Most text-led books should remain reflowable so readers can change font size and adapt the presentation to their device.
Check images and metadata
Cover and interior images should be prepared for digital use, and metadata should match the publication. Review Kobo’s current specifications before uploading because retailer guidance can change.
